Festive Fight - A Holiday Fighting Game

(Holmes) #1

Festive Fight - v 1.1

Holiday mascots from throughout the calendar must fight in order to compete for the affection of the children throughout the world for some weird reason.

This game includes single and multiplayer support. To fight, you have two options: Attack and Retreat. Each match, you have 5 hearts. Getting punched causes you to lose 1 heart. Lose all your hearts, and you’ll lose the match, so make sure you retreat often to dodge oncoming attacks. Different characters have different stats. Some are harder to use than others, so try them all out!

This game was created for the second Arduboy Game Jam.

ファイト!!!
(TL: Fight!!!)

I’d like to see a character roster if possible, I can only guess the names of about half the characters.

My guess:
Santa, Easter Bunny, ?, random Turkey, Groundhog, Uncle Sam.

Shameless plug or unintentional copy-paste? :P

(Felipe Manga) #3

I’m guessing Cupid, Thanksgiving Turkey

(Pharap) #4

Oh, I was thinking Thanksgiving was Uncle Sam, I forgot about Independence Day. Oddly enough they’re both holidays that I don’t pay much attention to :P.

Cupid makes sense, I didn’t think about him because that’s not really a holiday I celebrate.

(Kind of a shame there’s no Halloween fighter. Though if there’s ever a sequel I’m voting for Guy Fawkes to be involved. Oh, better yet - La Calavera Catrina)

(Holmes) #5

HAHA! YES, COPY/PASTE ERROR!!

Give me a moment and I’ll upload a roster with stats, too!

(Felipe Manga) #6

I think Uncle Sam looks a bit weird, like he has a dog head with floppy ears. :stuck_out_tongue:
Other than that, the art looks great!

Edit: I wish winning would go on to the next character instead of restarting.

(Pharap) #7

OK!! WHY ARE WE SHOUTING!?

Neat.

It can only be an improvement:

(Holmes) #8

Updated the original post with more fighter information.

(Pharap) #9

Excellent, Fire/10

(Holmes) #10

Quick update to version 1.1 . I fixed an issue that gave P1 advantage when there’s a frame-perfect clash as well as added a tie screen.

Really nice job with this! The design is really clever – even though there are only 2 movement options, it gives the potential for both players to outplay one another through spacing. Really reminds me of the concept of a “neutral game” in Smash Bros.

(Holmes) #12

Yeah! I’m actually a big fighting game fan, so I understand these kinds of concepts! The inspiration for the fighting mechanics for this game come from Dive Kick or simple thumb war.

Who’s your favorite character?

(aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) #13

Dang, never thought of applying those concepts to thumb war!

I’m currently taking a programming course with the Arduboy – and on day one our instructor gave us 5 minutes with a bunch of games. Since it was such a short time period I don’t really remember the different characters and wasn’t even aware they had different stats. Sorry!

Your tutorial is great by the way!

(Holmes) #14

Yeah! Thumb war is definitely a good metaphor for my game! Thanks for playing it!

I appreciate that!

(Holmes) #15

FINALLY released this on the Arduboy Manager repo and also put up the .arduboy file.

(Simon) #16

Hang on … this is your repo! Why did it take so long?

(Holmes) #17

I’m lazy and busy! It’s an unfortunate combination! :’(
