Incorrect information in the "upload games" guide

The upload games guide says:

All of the games for Arduboy are Open Source

This is false. Circuit Dude (to name one) isn’t open source.

Change it to

All of the games for Arduboy are Open Source or free to download

?

While we’re at it, you could also say the following text is also incorrect:

To use these programs you will first need to download install the
Arduino software to get the required USB drivers.

You do not need to install the Arduino IDE to get the drivers. For Linux, OSX Android you do not need to install any drivers

More accurate would be:

Windows programs require Arduino drivers being installed. For easy installation of these drivers, you can download and install the Arduino IDE

or

Windows programs depend on Arduino drivers. For easy installation of these drivers, you can download and install the Arduino IDE

I think I would prefer

All of the games for Arduboy are free to download and play, and most of the games are also open source.

The page is mainly aimed at non-technical people who are more concerned with playing games than writing them, so they’re probably less likely to care if games are open source, so open-sourceness should be the afterthought and ‘free to play’ should be the forethought.

Of course, the moment someone tries to put their game behind a paywall, we end up with another problem :P

As for the drivers I think something like:

If you are on Windows then to use these programs you will first need to download install the required USB drivers. These drivers can be found on the Arduino website and installed as part of the Arduino IDE.

Or something along those lines.
It’s hard to strike a balance between accuracy and not scaring away people who aren’t technically inclined.
I like the ‘can be’ way of saying it because it doesn’t rule out other methods of obtaining the drivers (i.e. by getting the .zip file version).

I find that people who aren’t technically inclined run a mile when they see common technical terms, and people who are technically inclined run a mile when they don’t see technical terms. :P

Either way “you will first need to download install” is grammatically incorrect, it should be “you will first need to download and install”.
(I’m guessing nobody noticed because most people’s brains fill in the ‘and’ automatically or something.)
So yes, that really ought to be replaced too.

‘these’ suggests that all programs in the list work on windows. Which is not the case.

Yeah I know. I deal with them on a daily basis, they prefer short answers / texts. The longer the answer / text, the easier they get confused.

When I say ‘these programs’ I mean ‘Arduboy games’.
Force of habit.

I think most games could be described as “source available”. But there will probably be some that aren’t even that.

Exibit A is always Circuit Dude.

Homebrewed licences are tricky.
