New user - can't upload/flash arduboy [Solved]

Hi All,

Just got my Arduboy.

Arduino IDE is all set up on Linux (Arch) and I can see the device but when I click “upload” the device restarts and I get “avrdude: ser_open(): can’t open device “/dev/ttyACM0”: Permission denied” error.

I seem to be getting the same issue as this user - https://superuser.com/questions/1230004/avrdude-dev-ttyacm0-issue-with-changing-permissions, the device restarts and for a split second /dev/ttyACM0 becomes root only before being set to root/uucp.

Any ideas?

Try to add your user to the dialout group. Do not forget to log out and in again.

dialout group doesn’t exist but I’ve added my user to uucp group.

What happens if you create a user rule like

SUBSYSTEM==“usb”, ATTRS{product}==“Arduboy”, GROUP=“users”, MODE=“0666”

It works fine with platformio so I’m using that now with my own editor.

Thanks veritazz.
