What’s the best Arduboy game?
#2

I’ve had a game like legend of the river king stuck in the back of my head for a while now. Glad someone was able to make one.

We just need an arduboy with more memory so you can build this Into ardynia

(Matt) #3

Forgot to add, the code is here: github.com/city41/tacklebox

I don’t recommend playing the game yet as it hasn’t been balanced. For example only the beginner pond has fish.

(Boti Kis) #4

I totally love it. The graphics are great.

(Simon) #5

Yeah I agree … this is looking pretty cool!

(Matt) #6

If anyone is curious and wants to try it out, the game is finished, you can grab it here:

Or play it in the emulator: https://felipemanga.github.io/ProjectABE/?url=https://github.com/city41/tacklebox/releases/download/1.0.1/tacklebox.1.0.1.hex

I am not going to truly announce it yet as the website still needs to be made, and at two points the game refers to the website.

I’m super happy with how it came out. I think it’s better than Ardynia. Ardynia taught me when you only have 28k, it’s better to focus in.

Awesome game!!! Reminds me of the time I spent in stardew valley fishing

(Matt) #8

Thanks! I really like casual games. Sometimes I play breath of the wild and I just wander around collecting mushrooms for hours  So I wanted to build something with that kind of feel.

(Matt) #9

Thanks to @drummyfish for the tree, stepping stones, rock, sign and grass tiles. They look great.

#10

Did this end up using a lot of the ardynia code base? It’s been such a short time.

(Matt) #11

Yeah, Ardynia was a huge head start for this game. I’d even say 50% of Tackle Box’s code came from Ardynia.

I also just really got into this one, so I worked on it nonstop for a while, including over Thanksgiving.

This looks so awesome, reminds me of fishing in Pokémon, gotta try this ASAP.

(Matt) #13

Tackle Box is done! Phew!

I edited the original post with all the details

(Miloslav Číž) #14

Have you used the standard settings for the compiler? I am getting

Sketch uses 28788 bytes (100%) of program storage space. Maximum is 28672 bytes.

I think it’s me because I’ve been playing with the compiler flags in the past, just want to make sure it’s really on my side before reinstalling Arduino.

(Matt) #15

Which version of the IDE are you using? I built it with 1.8.7 and it comes to 28,672 for me. Standard settings.

I’ve noticed different versions can produce different results.

(Miloslav Číž) #16

1.8.5, haven’t updated in a while. I’ll try, might be it. Thanks

(Matt) #17

There’s a couple easy spots I can squeeze out some bytes. I’ll do that so it will fit no matter what version is used.

(Miloslav Číž) #18

It was the old version, works now!

There’s something satisfying about exactly filling the memory though

(Matt) #19

true  Also I am thinking of making some tweaks so old boots are less common, and that would take those bytes back up again.

(Holmes) #20

This game is so good! I’m adding this to the list of my favorite Arduboy games.

I’m so freakin’ excited to see how many high-quality games are on the Arduboy system!

Dude, same! When I came across this on Twitter, this is exactly what came to my mind, as well!
