I have started work on a remake of one of my favourite games from my childhood, Karateka.
The graphics in it are reasonably complex so I know in advance that I will be stretching the resources to the max. The original was on an Apple ][ and had the advantage of being able to hit the disk occasionally for new backdrops and enemy graphics.
Obviously, it will not be in colour either - just glorious 1-bit black and white.
A little teaser …
Lots of things to do before its ready.
… and some more teasing …
Awesome. Can’t wait to try this out!
I played a ton of Karateka back in the day.
Me too - it was one of may favourites until Prince of Persia came along. So much better on an Apple ][ than the Commodore I had.
Another tease … enemy’s head needs to be changed!
I am getting close … we now have Princesses, Emperors, eagles and plain ol’ enemies. The video is much faster than the actual game play.
If you want to have a play, feel free to download a copy and provide (constructive) feedback. Its not finished, but getting close. As with all my games, I am looking for savings in the 1Kb region to include sound!
